Abercrombie & Kent, a preferred supplier of Travel Leaders Network, announced this week that they are adding to their already exclusive list of private jet travel: Africa. While Africa isn’t new territory for A&K, this new tour by private plane is sure to attract adventure seekers everywhere. Unquestionably, it does come with a bit of a price tag. This 23-day excursion starts at $149,950. Per person.
I am almost positive that this is exactly what we paid for our first house, but I digress. What do you get with your private plane tour of Africa? This small group tour of only 48 has its own staff that includes a Tour Director, Tour Managers, Local Guides, Dedicated Crew, Photographer, Physician, and an Executive Chef. You will travel in a Boeing 757 airplane with lie-flat Polaris-like seats. When not lounging in your airplane bed, A&K will be ensuring you have the best of the best accommodations in Africa. Of course all meals and beverages are included as well as wi-fi access on the plane. Honestly, as I was reading about this initially I started nodding, like, yes, this is a good deal.
At the present time, this tour is scheduled once in 2025, from February 4 – 26th:
- FEB 4 London
- FEB 5 – 7 Tunisia
- FEB 8 – 11 Kenya
- FEB 1 2 – 1 4 Rwanda
- FEB 1 5 – 1 7 Botswana
- FEB 1 8 – 2 0 South Africa
- FEB 2 1 – 2 2 Benin
- FEB 2 3 – 2 6 Morocco
Ultra-Luxury Tour Operator continues to deliver one-of-a-kind experiences
Diving a little deeper into the accommodations, A&K never fails. From the One & Only Gorilla’s Nest (option) to the Cape Grace Hotel, this is 6 star level. The activities planned in each country are unique and bespoke to each location.
Why am I writing about this? I don’t have too many clients who want to shell out $600K to tour their family of 4 around Africa next year. It’s to spark something. Spark and idea….a thought of something. Maybe you can’t do a private jet around Africa. But maybe you CAN look at an itinerary like this and start with just one place. I’m going to choose South Africa.
On that leg of the tour everyone stays at the Cape Grace Hotel. Activities are to explore Cape Peninsula with along with a scenic helicopter flight. They will visit Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was confined, ride a cable car up to Table Mountain for views of Cape Point. Go on a Food and Photo Safari in Bo-Kaap, the traditional home of Cape Malay culture and cuisine. Optional excursions to the famous wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, enjoying lunch at one of the few Black women owned wineries in the world.
You can do this. You can plan this and see these things. The bulk of you budget is obviously, airfare. If you can travel in the shoulder season we can typically find roundtrip airfare just under $1,000. Accommodations are plentiful, and the rest is vacation planning: rental car vs Uber, tours or do-it-yourself, dining, etc.. So while the bulk of us can’t swing $149K jet tours, I personally still enjoy reading the itineraries and extracting pieces and parts and creating my own luxury experiences from it. How about you?
